Dear Hon’ble Sir/Madam,

Sub: NEET Public Opinion (as per your notification dated Jun 17, 2021)

I, Sudhakar as a responsible citizen of the Union of India, and a resident of the state of Tamil Nadu,
OPPOSE NEET Examination on the basis of Social Justice, Equality & Humanism. Following are my views.

1. Introduction of NEET nullified the implementation of the policy initiatives and social-economic objectives of the state.

2. Both Medical Education and Health care are interlinked in providing affordable and free health care to the common people of the state. But Health care is under the responsibility of the state while Medical education is regulated by the Union Govt. Even though the State is responsible and trying to satisfy and uplift the socially oppressed communities to get medical education to serve among them, this new measure by the Union — NEET has come as an obstacle.

3. Students hailing from rural areas, oppressed communities are more likely to work in government/ rural hospitals. The same is NOT true for students completing their course in elite colleges. Statistics support this.

4. Earlier medical Education admission process in Tamil Nadu, enabled Poor and Rural students from all sections of the society to join medical colleges free of cost. It is based on merit; the process is transparent and has been in place for the past 50+ years.

5. Clearing the NEET exam without a Coaching Centre is near impossible. The rich & affluent students who join such coaching centers, start their preparation from 8th/9th standard itself ignoring school syllabus and only focusing on one exam, spending from 50 thousand rupees to 7–8 lakhs. This is against the true principles of education as a knowledge provider and making it a mere testing machine.

6. Also, expertise or knowledge of the Doctor is being assessed over 5–6 years in their academic process. NEET or any such entrance exam has no special place in their expertise. Hence any improvement should be done in the medical education and certification rather than introducing any entrance exam.

7. Many students have committed suicide & others have gone into depression after the NEET exam has been introduced, as their families could not cope up to its elite-only structure.

8. Tamil Nadu excels in Health care indicators such as IMR, MMR, Number of PHCs, Secondary, Tertiary Centers, Medical colleges, Doctor — People ratio etc. This is achieved by a responsible state with powers to drive the change. NEET nullifies it as it desecrates the powers.

Hence, Tamil Nadu should obtain an exemption from NEET!
Please use your good offices to deliver Social Justice for the Students of Tamil Nadu.

Thank you, Hon’ble Sir/Madam.
